VOX SERIES

Series 1 - Town Star Series 2 - Mirandus Series 3 - AMC's The Walking Dead Series 4 - Dreamwork's Trolls

Like many other blockchain projects, NFT sales were used to fund project development in advance of any deliverables. To date there have been 4 series of VOX sold to the public, each containing 8,888 unique ERC-721 NFTs. Owners receive limited IP rights to the use of their specific VOX in projects outside the Gala ecosystem. The PNG and FBX files are downloadable via the collectvox.com site making it possible for VOX to be imported to 3rd party applications as well as being 3D printed.

Series 1 focused on the flagship Gala game, Town Star, and each character holds a class based on the different workers within the game. Series 2 saw exemplars and other denizens of Mirandus brought forth in voxel form. Series 3 springboarded off Gala’s license with AMC’s The Walking Dead and gave us walkers with varying degrees of decay and many different iterations of characters from the show. And the theme for series 4 boasted a partnership with Dreamworks, NBCUniversal, and the Trolls movie franchise.

The inaugural sale for the Town Star VOX took place on 08/10/2021 and saw a price point of 0.0888 ETH per VOX box. The sale brought new interest from the speculative PFP community and sold out in 8 minutes while triggering a noteworthy gas war on the Ethereum blockchain. Some people paid thousands of dollars in gas fees only to have the transaction fail. As a consolation to those who lost money this way, Gala gave Series 2 boxes to people, 1 per every $400 lost in a failed transaction.

Whereas series 1 boxes were opened automatically, the Mirandus VOX box sold on 12/06/21 gave buyers the option to open. The new set saw a price increase to 0.888 ETH and still sold out in minutes but avoided a similar gas war by using the Gala Games store which collects purchase data prior to publishing the transaction to the blockchain. This sale had a different frustration for buyers, as a bad actor found a way to circumvent the random selection process and minted a large number of the higher rarity VOX from the pool. Thankfully the 3 dragons found legitimate homes, one soon being sold for 375 ETH (about $1.5M) and a second being sold for nearly 11M GALA (about $5M).

A partnership with AMC’s The Walking Dead to build a survival MMO paved the way for the 3rd VOX series, and the sale went live on 03/28/22 at 0.888 ETH per box as crypto markets continued to decline. The sale was very sluggish compared to the prior two, and yet again something went wrong with fulfillment. Many buyers received twice as many boxes as they had paid for, and in an unprecedented show of good faith a surprising number of them were returned to Gala by the community.

These “Good Samaritans” were added to the 1st pre-sale whitelist for series 4 which allowed them to purchase Trolls VOX boxes for 0.666 ETH in advance of the 0.888 ETH public sale. In addition to the partnership with NBCUniversal and Dreamworks, Gala also revealed their new relationship with Coinbase and the boxes were sold on the CoinbaseNFT platform. Activity from the 2nd whitelist overloaded the marketplace, but aside from that the hiccups this time around were minimal. The series did not sell out and the three top-rarity Yarn Snake VOX have yet to find a home.
